Review: Hearts of Blue (Hearts #4) L.H. Cosway

Rating: ★★★★★ stars
Date published: November 19th, 2015
Publisher: self published
Synopsis: She upholds the law. He breaks it.

Two blue hearts, both alike in bravery
In not-so-fair London, where we lay our scene
From gun crime to petty theft
Where family is blood and survival makes hands unclean
In this place, we find two hearts who should be foes
And yet, amidst the turmoil their love still grows
Misadventure abounds and the divide will bring them strife
But with luck, death doesn’t always mean an end to life.

Hearts of Blue is a standalone contemporary romance that tells the story of star-crossed lovers Karla Sheehan and Lee Cross, a police constable and the thief who steals her heart.

What I Thought:

Every book in this series just keeps getting better and better. I caught a glimpse of the attraction between Lee and Karla in King of Hearts. It wasn't a large one, but I knew the two of them would have explosive chemistry and I was right. The pull between them fueled this story. It didn't help that the two were on either sides of the law, making any sort of relationship between them impossible.

I couldn't help but love Lee. Yes he doesn't make a completely honest living, but he's doing what he needs to do to help his family and those he loves. He's a guy who is willing to do things his way, but he's also got boundaries and limits. He has a commanding presence. He's not into hurting others unless they're hurting his family. For someone on the wrong side of the law, he's got a heart of gold. Plus he's tenacious and a fighter. He knows what he feels for Karla is special and he's not willing to let her go without a fight. It's surprising but I really feel like he's the reason anything happened at all between him and Constable Karla.

Karla was easy to like and love too. She's not only a great person, but she's a great friend too. She loves her job and is in it to help others, to be a part of the change in the world she wants to see. It was easy to see what drew her to Lee and in turn him to her. Karla is beautiful in both body and spirit. I loved seeing her look at things around her with new eyes and take charge of her own life. I really disliked how her parents were. It felt like she got all the support she needed from outside the home or was just really strong on her own rather than from them.

Lee and Karla together were magnificent. Their battles with their morals and ideals kept things shaky for them, but that was totally understandable. It's not easy to reconcile what you love with a way of thinking and doing that's complete opposite to yours.  I was worried for the majority of the book they wouldn't be able to find a way to compromise on their careers and beliefs and meet somewhere in the middle. It certainly kept me turning pages and me on edge. I loved the suspense and action feel it gave to the story. I really wanted them to figure things out. Their chemistry with each other also translated to some very hot scenes in the "bedroom."

One thing I've noticed about L.H. Cosway's books other than the fact I love them and can never get enough, is the strong presence of family and friendship she always has. In Karla's case, it was Alexis and Reya who provided friendship and advice. For Lee it was his brothers who also happen to be very dashing and charming. I do hope there will be more books featuring them, because there's nothing like a rehabilitated bad boy. I was swooning over them and they weren't even the main characters in the story. Hearts of Blue is a stunning tale of star-crossed love packed full of action, suspense, and emotion. It may just be my favorite book in the series so far.
