Synopsis: Who knew falling in love with my best friend had the potential to single-handedly destroy my entire family?

For as long as I could remember, I'd been in love with sexy, lawyer extraordinaire Nicholas Alexander. We’d always had a certain chemistry growing up, especially after we shared one passionate, forbidden, perfect kiss as teenagers. For years, I’d hoped he could look past my overprotective brothers and our age difference so we could be more than friends, I was wrong. Four years ago, I left New York and my heart behind. Now I was back to stake my claim on the only man I'd ever loved. But unbeknownst to me, things were way more complicated than I could’ve imagined when I learn he's engaged—to my sister.

Will the love and desire I feel for the one man I've ever truly wanted destroy me? Am I willing to risk it all, for a chance at everlasting love?

Catherine Reed was the one woman I couldn't have, but the one I always wanted. She was my best friend’s baby sister, which meant she was definitely off-limits to me and anyone else if I had my way. Not even having a merry-go-round of beautiful girls could stop me from wanting her. Watching her leave was hard, but I knew giving in to what I wanted back then would ruin her... us. All I've ever wanted was for her to be happy and to see her beautiful smile.

I haven't gotten to where I am by always doing what's right. She's back. I want her. I have every intention of making her mine.

This book is not intended for readers under the age of 18 due to language and sexual content.

What I Thought:

This book is a little confusing.  I'm not sure how to rate it. How do I factor in the fact I almost didn't finish it with the fact I enjoyed the last half more?

When I started reading, I was a little taken aback by what I was seeing. The majority of the text was dialogue between characters. I felt like I was only reading conversations but the way it was set up was what confused me.  I wasn't sure who was speaking and to whom. The chapters did have the names of the characters at the top which was great, but I'd often forget and have to go back to see whose head I was in. It didn't help that I wasn't really able to connect with the characters until almost the end of the book.  I almost wanted to stop reading at about 15%.  However I stuck to it and I found I liked the second half more.

The confusion I had regarding to what was going in the story remained for the most part, almost up until the very end. There was a lot of drama in this book too, which also threw me for a loop. I think it was because all of the main characters were so close to each other. A lot of it seemed unnecessary until certain revelations were made which made things a little clearer. That was when I connected with Cat and Nick. They had great chemistry together and I thought it was odd it took them so long to finally see it.

I had a huge problem with the hero. It's funny because the heroine Catherine "Cat" Reed is the one who was skewered unfairly in my opinion in this book. I both hated that it happened and liked how the author spotlighted how unfair it was. Nick might have been this dreamboat and "brilliant" attorney, but he wasn't very smart about where he dipped his wick if you get what I mean.

This book was unpredictable; I wasn't ever sure which direction the story was going in, which is usually a good thing. There is an open ending as most conflicts weren't resolved and there will be a second book. While this might not have been the most pleasant reading experience, I will be giving the second book a chance.  I'd like to see how the author improves with time and also to find out what's going to happen with Nick and Cat.
