Synopsis: Part of Invitation to Eden

After ending a relationship to a cheating, domineering man, Isabelle Masters takes off in her leased Mercedes, only to be arrested for grand theft and hauled to a local police station. To her surprise, she is rescued by the most unlikely person possible, Gabriel Dare, a man she’s been attracted to for far too long. Gabe offers Isabelle freedom along with an invitation to Eden, an exclusive island resort where everything and anything is possible.

Although Gabe yearns to possess Isabelle, he knows all too well he must fight his primitive need to bind her to him, and instead help bring out the independent woman she yearns to become – or risk losing her for good.

A woman who needs to run her own life. A man who needs to exert control. Can she surrender to his erotic demands without losing her sense of self once more?

What I Thought:

I'll admit that when I started reading this book, I wasn't aware it was part of the Invitation to Eden series.  Oddly enough  that has no bearing on whether or not I would've read the book in the first place.  I was very eager to read another book featuring a Dare.  I thought it might be one of the "original" Dare siblings, but I can't say Gabriel was any bit of a let down, even if he is a Dare cousin and not one of the Dares I'd read about previously.

I enjoyed reading this book and it felt like I read it in no time at all  I really liked seeing Isabelle come into her own after being lost for so long.  I can't blame her for being overwhelmed by everything that happened to her.  I'm glad Iz held her ground in the beginning with Gabriel, otherwise it was likely she'd be swept along into another relationship without finding her bearings.  I liked Gabriel too.  I like guys who know what they want, and Gabe certainly did, but he was a little lost as well.

I think part of the reason I didn't rate this book higher is because I wasn't really emotionally invested in either character.  I knew Gabriel had a past and secrets he was keeping but when it came time for the big reveal I wasn't really shocked.  I was also a little thrown by a gap in the story.  It seemed like there was very little transition and I was lost. While the gap made since, I do wish my awareness of it would've been a little smoother and not so jarring.  I really didn't like Iz's ex, but I don't think anyone would like him. Carly Phillips is a wonderful story teller and her books have never failed to impress me, so I'm hoping it's just me.
