Marquita Valentine has written some fantastic books. When the news about this series first broke a few months ago, I was really excited. Especially since it's a departure from her previous work. This first installment in this new series by Marquita Valentine is a (good) doozy. It's different from her Boys of the South and Holland Springs series, but so good. I felt as if Marquita both simultaneously revealed and concealed information about both Roman, Everly (I love the name!), and the ongoing situation with Roman's occupation.
I learned Roman was a "good" bad guy, Everly was a sweetheart, and Roman's life is beyond complicated. I liked both of them; Roman for trying to keep Everly safe and not being able to stay away from her. Everly was just a sweetheart. I would've loved to know more about Roman's boss and his origins. I ended the book with many more questions than I started out with.
This part ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger. I will admit I was already intrigued by Roman even before I started reading, but now I'm fascinated. I really want to know how Roman is going to keep himself and Everly safe. I also am very eager to know what happens in the next installment with his new "job" assignment. Trust me, you're going to want to read this book. I'm already counting down the days until the next part becomes available.
